Adventures of the Reptilian Kind
The other day when I was in my backyard I heard my two dogs begin to bark, so I went to see what all the "drama" was about. It was a corn snake also known as a red rat snake. After letting my dogs inside I began to observe the snake. I noticed it was friendly and began to lift it with a long stick (to see its reaction) after noticing its friendliness I called for my father. When he arrived he said I could pick it up, so I did. After holding it for a few minutes I let it go into the woods behind my house. This was a safe spot for the snake and made my mother happy as well. I hope I get to see many more corn snakes as I grow up! :^)

WOW, Austin! Great new blog and an excellent post about the Corn Snake! I would love to see a Corn Snake in the wild.
ReplyDeleteWe have many snakes in Ohio and a lot of them can be found around the Observatory where I work. Most of them are Common Garder Snakes and Eastern Fox Snakes, which are very cool.
I'll email you my favorite snake picture, okay?!
Thanks for sharing your experience and the great photos!

I have a lack of snakes in my yard this year due to the "Fearsome two some" my hawks grew and are terrors! Glad you're not afraid of snakes Austin!
ReplyDeleteYou are like a super hero to the tortoise!
ReplyDeleteAnother great post, Austin. Loved the part where you waited for your dad to get there to let you know it was okay to pick up the snake. Not too long ago Zach, Josh and I found a snake in our back yard...a water moccasin...ugh...dangerous. Ms. Upright
ReplyDeleteCorn snakes are fantastic. I had one hide in my sleeve while I was working a booth for a nature center but to have them as backyard creature ...sweet.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful corn snake. Congratulations on finding it. It makes me very happy to read anything by a person who is a friend to snakes.
